McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle

The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle is an American multi-role fighter aircraft developed by McDonnell Douglas in the 1970s and is considered one of the best fighter aircraft in the world.
In order to counteract the – perceived – threat of the MiG-25 , the F-15 was first developed as a counterpart. A later requirement was for it to replace the F-4 Phantom as an air superiority fighter . The aircraft had to have good maneuverability , high speed , easy maintenance and a high thrust-to-weight ratio . McDonnell Douglas won the tender and the first flight took place on July 22, 1972. Production aircraft were delivered to the USAF from 1974 onwards. Other operators of the F-15 are Israel , Japan , Saudi Arabia , Qatar , South Korea and Singapore . A version for air-to-ground operations, the F-15E Strike Eagle, was also developed.

The F-15 Streak Eagle received particular attention as it set several world records in climb performance without any paint job.
