The F-104 G Starfighter is a single-engine , jet-powered fighter aircraft developed in the 1950s by the US company Lockheed . The F-104 was originally designed as a high-altitude fighter , but also gained notoriety as a multi-role combat aircraft . The Starfighter 's characteristic features were its slender fuselage , T-tail and extremely short wings with razor-sharp leading edges.

The F-104 Starfighter has a mixed operational record .
