The Douglas DC-3 is an iconic airliner developed in the 1930s. It is considered one of the most remarkable aircraft in aviation history . The DC-3 was originally developed as a passenger aircraft , based on its predecessor , the DC-2 . However, it could also be used as a cargo aircraft and military transport aircraft .

During World War II, the DC-3 (under the military name C-47 Skytrain ) was used extensively for military transport . Its robust construction and ability to operate on relatively short and unpaved runways made it an ideal aircraft for a variety of missions.
