Description

The F-106 Delta Dart was the last of the so-called " Century Series " aircraft of the United States Air Force , which played an important role during the Cold War . Special features of the Delta Dart were the delta wing shape , which provided high speeds and good maneuverability was designed, as well as the pronounced "bottleneck" hull.

The primary mission of the F-106 Delta Dart was to defend American airspace during the Cold War era. It was capable of intercepting enemy bombers and was the primary interceptor of the USAAF and later the USAF .

The F-106 was considered one of the most successful fighters of its time and also served with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for research purposes . The Delta Dart was eventually replaced by more modern aircraft, but remains a symbol of the technical innovation of the 1950s and 1960s.
