Description

The MiG-25 , also known as the "Foxbat", is a Soviet supersonic jet interceptor aircraft developed in the 1960s by the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau to replace American aircraft such as the B-58 or A-12 (later SR-71 ) to be able to intercept.

The aircraft had a robust construction, mainly made of heat-resistant steel and titanium . It was equipped with the Tumanski R-15 engines, which were one of the most powerful engines ever built and could reach Mach 3.2. In practical use, however, the speed was limited to Mach 2.8.

The reconnaissance version of the MiG-25, the MiG-25RB , had an extended nose section that housed various cameras and electronic equipment. This version could also be used as a bomber .

The MiG-25 was equipped with a variety of weapons systems , including air-to-air missiles and machine guns .

Special versions of the MiG-25, known as Je-266 , set numerous records in terms of speed , altitude and climb time .
