Description

The MiG-19 , NATO code name "Farmer" , is a Soviet jet fighter aircraft that was developed in the 1950s by Mikoyan-Gurevich . It was a further development of the MiG-17 , but differed primarily in its two engines . The MiG-19 also had strongly swept wings , which gave it great maneuverability . However, the engine overheating was a recurring problem, leading to many accidents .

The MiG-19 was the first supersonic fighter to be mass-produced, and was also produced under license in China and in several variants . It was superior to Western aircraft such as the F-100 , but was never able to exploit its potential due to engine problems .
