In the 1970s, Hawker Siddeley started a project to bridge the gap between the Fokker F27 and the Boeing 737. However, various reasons led to this project being discontinued. In the late 1980s, the project was resumed by BAE , which led to the development of the BAE 146. At the same time as the first flight, an already lengthened version was presented.

The design of this short-haul aircraft with shoulder cover is remarkable in that it is equipped with 4 engines . It also has a T-tail and is characterized by low noise levels .

The BAE 146 was built in several variants, in which the fuselage was extended several times. It was also used as a cargo aircraft and firefighting aircraft . Despite production being stopped in 2001, the BAE 146 is still in use worldwide.
