Description

The Macchi C200 Saetta was an Italian fighter aircraft developed by the Macchi company to replace the outdated Fiat CR 32 and CR 42 biplanes . It was built in all-metal monocoque construction and had good flight characteristics and considerable maneuverability . However, its flight performance was reduced by the large radial engine .

The Saetta was used in the war theatres in Greece , North Africa , Yugoslavia and on the Eastern Front .

Due to its poor performance, it was replaced by the MC.202 Folgore in 1941 .
