Description

The Messerschmitt Me 262 was the world's first production jet aircraft and was used by the German Luftwaffe during World War II . Its first flight took place in 1942, but it was not brought to the front in large numbers until 1944.

The Me 262 had a strongly swept wing shape and was equipped with two Junkers Jumo 004 turbines , which enabled it to reach high speeds of over 800 km/h . It was used in a variety of roles, including as a fighter , fighter-bomber and reconnaissance aircraft . Its high speed and maneuverability made it a dangerous opponent for Allied aircraft, but its late introduction and limited production volume significantly limited its impact on the war.

Despite its advanced technology, the Me 262 could not turn the tide of the war, but is today considered a milestone in the history of aviation and is often seen as the forerunner of modern fighter jets .
