Junkers Ju 87

The Junkers Ju 87 , also known as the "Stuka" (dive bomber), was a single-engine German military aircraft developed in the 1930s and used primarily in World War II .

The Ju 87 was known for its rigid , faired undercarriage and distinctive dihedral wing configuration , which gave it great stability in dives . It was equipped with bombs and machine guns and was often used to attack ground targets and support land-based troops .

Another notable feature of the Ju 87 was the siren sound of the so-called "Jericho Trumpet" that was produced when it dived, causing fear and terror on the ground. The Stuka gained its notoriety in the early years of the war, but later became vulnerable to faster and better armed fighters . Despite its successful operations early in the war, the Ju 87 became increasingly less effective from 1943 onwards as Allied air defences became stronger.
