The Junkers Ju 52 was originally planned by Junkers as a single-engine cargo aircraft, but was later converted into the famous three-engine variant . The Ju 52 was one of the most innovative aircraft in the 1930s , and was used in many variants both in civil aviation and for military purposes . It is characterized by the typical corrugated sheet metal used on many Junkers aircraft and the double wings , where the flaps are mounted separately .

In the civilian sector, the Ju 52 was used by numerous airlines all over the world. Military use was limited to Europe and especially to the German Air Force during World War II . The Ju 52 was also built under license in France and Spain . Many Ju 52s were in use until long after World War II. There are currently only two airworthy examples .

The Ju 52 is one of the most famous aircraft in the world and has also been used in many films , which further contributed to its fame.
