Heinkel He 111

The Heinkel He 111 was a German bomber that saw widespread use during World War II . Developed by the Heinkel Flugzeugwerke , the He 111 had its first flight in 1935 and quickly became recognized as an important military aircraft of the Luftwaffe .

The He 111 was characterized by its characteristic streamlined shape and a glazed cabin . Originally designed as a commercial aircraft , it was quickly converted into a bomber version . During the course of the war, the He 111 was built in various variants and modifications to suit different purposes. Notable is the use as a tow plane, the He 111Z , in which two He 111s were assembled and fitted with an additional fifth engine .

In total, several thousand He 111s were built, and it remained in service until the end of the war. Today, only a few examples remain, and it is considered an important aircraft of the Luftwaffe .
