Fieseler Fi 103

The Fieseler Fi 103 , better known as the V1 or V1 rocket , was a German guided missile project during World War II . Developed by Fieseler-Werke GmbH , it is considered one of the first practical cruise missiles .

Equipped with a carburettor-powered pulse jet engine, the V1 could attack targets with an explosive charge of about 800 kg over a range of 250 km . Its main purpose was to hit British cities , especially London . The rocket was used primarily in 1944 and 1945 , and represented a new form of warfare . Despite the technological innovations, the accuracy of the V1 was generally limited.

The V1 , often referred to as the "retaliation weapon" , was part of the German armament effort to achieve strategic goals . Nevertheless, its influence on the course of the war remained limited. After the war, the technology of the V1 served as the basis for the development of modern guided missiles and rocket programs in various countries.
