Description

Due to the enormous losses of inadequately equipped helicopters in the Vietnam War , a tender was put out to tender for a heavy attack helicopter . However, the designs submitted were inadequate, which is why Hughes was awarded the contract for the AH-64 in the 1970s . The pilot and gunner sit one behind the other in a specially protected and armored cabin. The Apache 's airframe is also armored by various components and can withstand a wide range of fire.

The Apache is equipped with a high-performance radar that can target targets in the visible and infrared range. The radar system is controlled by a sighting system integrated into the pilot's helmet, which is controlled by the pilot's head movement.

The Apache can carry a variety of missiles and also has a swiveling machine gun mounted under the fuselage.
